The Henderson & Jones Team

Gwilym Jones
Managing Director

Gwilym is co-founder of Henderson & Jones and an accountant with over 10 years’ experience in insolvency, restructuring and audit.  Gwilym sits on our investment committee and provides forensic accounting expertise on disputes.

Gwilym started his career in Audit at Deloitte in 2006 where on qualifying he joined the Restructuring Services team in London. He then joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2014 before co-founding Henderson & Jones with Philip Henderson in 2016.

Gwilym is a chartered accountant with the ICAEW and a full member of R3 and Insol International.  He has a Masters in Physics from the University of Nottingham.

Philip Henderson
Managing Director

Philip is co-founder of Henderson & Jones and an experienced commercial litigator, specialising in complex financial services and insolvency disputes.  Philip is General Counsel of Henderson & Jones and sits on our investment committee.

Prior to co-founding Henderson & Jones in 2016, Philip spent 11 years in private practice as a commercial litigator at Freshfields, Eversheds and Shakespeare Martineau.  

Philip is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales with Higher Rights of Audience.  He has a law degree from the University of Newcastle.

Piers Elliott
Managing Director

Piers is a commercial litigator with over 10 years’ experience of complex and high-profile disputes. Piers has a broad commercial practice with particular expertise in advising on  financial services and insolvency disputes.  

Piers joined Henderson & Jones in September 2019 from Freshfields where Piers spent seven years as a senior associate in the dispute resolution team.  During his time at Freshfields, Piers spent six months on secondment to the Litigation and Regulatory Enforcement team at HSBC. Prior to joining Freshfields, Piers spent five years at Mayer Brown.

Piers is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. He has a law degree from the University of Birmingham.

Ron Robinson
Chairman

Ron is Chairman of the Board of Henderson & Jones and sits on our investment committee.

Ron has over 30 years’ experience in the insolvency industry as an insolvency practitioner and is a former president of R3.  

He was national head of insolvency at Kidsons and is a member of the firm’s national council. He was one of the founding partners of Begbies Traynor’s corporate recovery practice.

Sophie Samani
Legal Director

Sophie is a commercial litigator with extensive experience in handling complex commercial litigation matters, ranging from insolvency, professional negligence, shareholder, restrictive covenant and product liability disputes.

Sophie joined Henderson & Jones in June 2019, having previously spent 19 years in private practice with Shakespeare Martineau and DAC Beachcroft advising a broad range of clients ranging from SMEs to blue chip international businesses.

Sophie is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.  She has a law degree from the University of Wolverhampton. Sophie is a past chair of the dispute resolution committee for BLS and a member of the R3 Midlands committee.

Daren Hlaing
Legal Director

Daren is a commercial litigator specialising in insolvency, financial services and professional negligence disputes. Daren has extensive experience of litigation claims in the High Courts of England and Wales and has expertise in insolvency, fraud and asset-tracing.

Daren joined Henderson & Jones in January 2024 from Ernst & Young LLP's in-house counsel team, where he advised the firm's audit and assurance practices. Prior to that, Daren spent 10 years in Freshfields' dispute resolution department where he advised on a range of complex, high-profile matters. Daren is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.

Scott Sobczyk
Senior Associate

Scott is an experienced commercial litigator, specialising in complex construction disputes as well as a broader range of commercial and insolvency matters.

Scott joined Henderson & Jones in 2018, having previously completed his training contract with Gowling before qualifying into Gowling's Contentious Construction team.  During his time with Gowling, Scott was involved in a number of complex and high-value disputes (both domestic and with an international element), across a range of construction projects; from large-scale infrastructure works to renovations of domestic and commercial properties.

Scott is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. He has a law degree from the University of Sheffield.

Dalila Scanavacca
Associate

Dalila is an Italian qualified lawyer specialising in insolvency and general commercial litigation.

Dalila joined Henderson & Jones in 2017, having previously worked in private practice in Italy.  Dalila qualified in 2013; passing the Italian Avvocato Exam (although she is not currently enrolled in Italy). When working in private practice in Italy, her main focus was commercial and civil litigation.  A skilled advocate, Dalila appeared before the Italian Courts on a regular basis.

Dalila has a law degree from the Università di Bergamo and a Graduate Diploma in Law from Oxford Brookes University.

Lauren Hughes
Associate

Lauren is an experienced commercial litigator, specialising in complex financial disputes as well as a broader range of commercial and insolvency litigation matters.

Lauren joined Henderson & Jones in January 2021, having previously completed her training contract with Eversheds Sutherland and qualifying into Eversheds Sutherland's Financial Services, Disputes and Investigations team. During her time with Eversheds Sutherland, Lauren was involved in high value multijurisdictional disputes and investigations and spent six months on secondment to the Commercial Legal team at Barclays.

Lauren is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. She has a law degree from the University of Liverpool.

Bela Viramgama
Associate

Bela specialises in commercial litigation and contentious insolvency, with a particular focus on enforcement.

Bela joined Henderson & Jones in 2022, having completed her training contract at Trowers & Hamlins. Bela's training contract exposed her to complex, high-value litigation; including fraud, shareholder and commercial contracts disputes. Prior to her training contract, Bela worked in both criminal and civil legal teams for a local authority, where she regularly conducted preliminary hearings in the magistrates' and county courts.

Bela is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. She has a law degree from the University of Birmingham.

Jonny Jones
Associate

Jonny joined Henderson & Jones in September 2024 as an Associate, having spent the previous three and a half years at Higgs LLP specialising in Restructuring and Insolvency.

With a keen interest in all things insolvency, Jonny has experience across a variety of contentious matters and his tenacious approach to litigation has afforded him recent success in complex recoveries.

Jonny is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. He has a first class Law degree from the University of Birmingham as well as a masters degree from the University of Law.

Callum Pentland
Financial Controller

Callum is an ICAEW chartered accountant, specialising in financial control, business strategy, and management accounting.

Callum joined Henderson & Jones in 2021, following a successful tenure at Muse Developments, a subsidiary of the Morgan Sindall Construction Group. Here, he managed the day-to-day financial operations for a range of joint ventures. His career began with Mazars, where he gained vital insights into financial regulations and auditing processes. He earned his degree in finance from Bournemouth University.

Karishma Ladwa
Paralegal

Karishma began her legal career in the manufacturing sector and so has experiences in various types of law such as commercial contracts and IP.  She has taken part in many extra curricular activities such as sitting on the Solihull Schools Appeals Panel and Pro Bono work in the context of Consumer Rights law.

Liz Foley
Executive Assistant

With extensive experience in operations, Liz plays an integral role in the overall planning and management of business development strategies to advance company initiatives and goals.

Liz joined Henderson & Jones in 2023, with a focus on supporting company Directors with day-to-day functions and working closely with the leadership team to drive the business forward. Having previously worked in property development and since starting her career as a marketing and business development professional, Liz has gained a wealth of experience in accelerating business strategies from planning through to completion. Her focus remains on incorporating process improvement strategies to drive effective administrative solutions, leading business development activities and consistently delivering best-in-class support to the team.
